Summary: The Supplier Quality Specialist will manage several raw material categories. The specialist is responsible for approving new items and suppliers, communicating with suppliers regarding non-conforming goods, and auditing suppliers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct raw material supplier approval, including review of food safety documents.
- Manage multiple raw material categories, point person for designated categories.
- Request and review supplier documents, follow up by phone or email as required.
- Lead supplier calls and supplier non-conformance investigations.
- Support plants with supplier non-conformance-related investigations, communication, and root cause/corrective actions.
- Manage corrective actions for suppliers for non-conformances and ensure timely resolutions from suppliers.
- Collaborate with suppliers to implement corrective actions.
- Provide technical support to Blount manufacturing site regarding non-conforming ingredients and packaging materials
- Monitor and track supplier performance, KPIs, and identify areas for food safety and quality improvements.
- Provide feedback to the Supply Chain Team on supplier performance
- Conduct raw material and supplier risk assessments.
- Travel to conduct food safety & quality audits at suppliers (about 10-25% travel)
- Assure audit findings are addressed and corrective action implemented
- Conduct warehouse audit and documents requests.
- Contribute to the writing and reviewing of corporate FSQ policies and procedures.
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s or higher in food science, biology, chemistry, or microbiology
- Working knowledge of FDA, USDA, GMP, HACCP, and food allergens
- HACCP and PCQI certification preferred.
- Knowledgeable of GFSI audit schemes
- Needs strong organization and communication skills.
- Highly organized, collaborative, and self-motivated individual
- ASQ auditing certification is preferred
