Summary: The Corporate Safety Manager is an individual corporate, functional leader who thrives on creating and nurturing a culture of safety across our organization. This individual will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive safety programs, ensuring the highest standards of safety practices throughout all company facilities. The ideal candidate will have a passion for safety, be a strong safety advocate with a proactive mindset, focusing on bringing new, innovative ideas to mitigate safety risks and reduce insurance claims. They will collaborate with leadership teams and satellite facilities to foster a safe work environment and drive continuous improvement. This individual will create annual KPIs and assess the company’s performance to these key objectives. The Corporate Safety and Security Manager will have responsibility for overall compliance with local, State, and Federal regulatory obligations with respect to the employee’s security, health, safety and well-being. They shall ensure we meet all existing and new regulatory requirements in relation to employee safety and security. The plant safety staff will report directly to plant leadership while this role reports to corporate leadership. Corporate Functional Leaders are the category experts for the business creating synchronization, sharing best practices; setting corporate goals and objectives; auditing and reporting progress, creating encouragement and training and hold plant management accountable.
Essential Duties:
- Lead initiatives to raise awareness of safety protocols and encourage employees to actively participate in safety programs. This could include training sessions, safety committees, and fostering open communication regarding safety concerns.
- Cultivate a first class, safety-first culture across the company by promoting awareness, engagement, and accountability at all levels. Lead by example, inspiring employees and management to take ownership of safety practices and continuously improve safety standards.
- Design, implement, and maintain robust safety programs and protocols tailored to the company’s operations. Ensure programs are aligned with industry best practices, regulatory requirements, and company-specific needs.
- Collaborate with the Risk Management and Insurance teams to mitigate workplace risks, analyze safety incidents, and track trends. Proactively work to reduce insurance claims by addressing potential hazards before they lead to injuries or accidents.
- Collaborate with the Corporate Utilities and Environmental manager to mitigate system risks and promote best practices in these areas.
- Develop and conduct safety training sessions for employees at all levels, ensuring everyone understands their role in maintaining a safe workplace. Ensure ongoing education to keep employees updated on the latest safety regulations and best practices.
- Perform regular site audits, safety inspections, and assessments across all company facilities, including satellite locations. Identify hazards and implement corrective actions to ensure compliance and a continuous improvement cycle.
- Work closely with satellite facilities and remote teams to ensure safety initiatives are implemented uniformly across the company. Provide guidance and support to facility managers in addressing local safety concerns and improving performance.
- Lead incident investigations to determine root causes of accidents, injuries, or near-misses. Prepare detailed reports and implement corrective measures to prevent recurrence. Maintain accurate records of incidents and safety performance metrics.
- Ensure the company complies with OSHA and other relevant federal, state, and local safety regulations. Stay informed of changes to safety laws and regulations and ensure timely updates to company safety policies and practices.
- Foster a continuous improvement mindset by gathering feedback, tracking safety performance metrics, and applying lessons learned to enhance safety protocols. Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs and recommend enhancements.
- Ensures all JSA’s are current and develops new as needed.
- Stay informed and active with insurance quarterly meetings.
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university or equivalent with focus in Environmental Management & Sustainability, Occupational Safety & Health Management.
- Preferred certifications/designations. Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Ammonia systems Management (PSM).
- Ability to put strategy to action and influence across various functions and levels within the organization
- Ability to travel up to 20% of the time.
- 5 plus years providing HSE leadership for a manufacturing Environment
- Industrial, Food & Beverage, pharmaceutical industry is preferred
- Must have extensive EHS oversight for multiple manufacturing locations
- Excellent time management skills with an ability to understand key goals and objectives and achievements while leading groups of internal and external resources to meet project goals.
