Summary:
The Corporate Utilities and Environmental Manager will be accountable for the performance of all utilities at the manufacturing facilities. In this role, you will partner collaboratively with internal and external parties with issues related to all energy sources, energy efficiency, wastewater, and other utilities. You will be responsible for overseeing legal and company compliance and give guidance to the Plant based teams. You will improve the stability, capability and availability of the utility processes while reducing variability and mitigating risks in the operational area. You will enable the operational area to achieve variable and fixed cost and operating efficiency targets while protecting our people, communities, the environment, and assets and honor our business obligations.
The successful candidate will have experience with process, utility and manufacturing systems in the food and beverage industries. You will interface with department heads to analyze, evaluate, develop continuous improvement of our operating systems.
Essential Duties:
- Analyze resource usage trends and develop more complex operational plans to assist in the optimization of systems for peak efficiency and develop and implement reporting to ensure consistent monitoring and early warning indicators for utility departments.
- Plan and schedule maintenance of plant utility systems using reliability models and predictive technologies in collaboration with maintenance leadership.
- Monitor and manage variable and fixed utility and energy costs working closely with technology, finance, operations. compliance and third-party contracting teams.
- Plan and monitor production shutdowns ensuring legal and preventive maintenance compliance of all utility equipment.
- Independently lead new capital project start-ups until normal operation is achieved, along with all activities associated with planning and execution of start-up/operational tasks for capital projects.
- Independently handle complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating only the most complex issues to appropriate staff.
- Ensure all PSM/RMP and DEM/ EPA requirements are maintained, updated, and audited.
- Work closely with the Corp FSQA function and General Managers to ensure unified policy and systems.
- Review, Standardize and Implement BEST IN CLASS, (for chilled prepared foods businesses), corporate Engineering systems and processes. Ensure compliance with legal, customer and operational resilience requirements.
- Serve as liaison to Exec Board, General Managers, VP of Operations on Utility engineering processes and practices.
- Must be able to read interpret P&ID drawings with vendors and automation engineers.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the production process from start to finish. Manage analytical requirements, measurements, monitoring and reporting for acceptable process operations.
- Conducting site surveys/audits to gather field data, preparing and interpreting drawings.
- Meeting with internal departments, contractors, other engineering design firms and plant personnel concerning project execution.
- Coordination of other project discipline tasks while working within project charters/scopes/budgets and schedules
- Performing tasks within the FSQA and QC plant requirements
- Work closely with PMO and BI depts to ensure all financial tracking is complete and up to date.
- Document fully each project from start to finish to capture all learnings.
Utilities Engineer Responsibilities:
- Ensure People Safety is always considered during project work.
- Ensure product safety and quality and set policy and standards.
- Help drive a “Right first time” approach to manufacturing in the facilities.
- Work with the continuous improvement team to coordinate enterprise analysis and recommendations.
- Standardize testing protocols and equipment.
- Help set annual ‘GO’ goals to team.
- Monitor the processes and process change control, provide feedback to operations, and recommend enhancement to SOPs where necessary.
- Plan and manage the required development of people and processes within the department.
- Develop and implement improvement plans to ensure continued improvement in the value addition created by the function.
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
- MUST have extensive Ammonia Refrigeration experience.
- Minimum of four years of related work experience.
- Experience supervising industrial contractors, maintenance, and field personnel.
- Knowledge of operating systems used to build custom tailored solutions that meet unique customer specific requirements for energy management, operational flexibility, and evolving connectivity technologies.
- Experience and understanding of plant operations, site steam and condensate distribution systems, site compressed air supply, cooling towers and cooling tower water systems, effluent system, and potable water systems.
