Summary
The Sr. Manager Food Safety & Quality Assurance [FSQA] will be a leader and a strong champion of Blount’s culture of food safety and quality, and be responsible for the design and achievement of its facility specific goals with respect to food safety of products and services across multiple product areas and two manufacturing facilities. The Sr. Manager FSQA will ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and requirements of the FDA, USDA and any other food production/safety governing agencies with jurisdiction in the U.S. This position is facility focused, to drive food safety and quality culture across all facility related departments, and must be able to develop the vision for facility department based on corporate initiatives & goals and communicate that vision within the team. The Sr. Manager FSQA will provide leadership and direction to FSQA facility staff, and will be responsible for the selection, motivation, and oversight of staff for the achievement of the department’s goals.
It will be critical to this individual’s success, that he/she demonstrates a truly collaborative approach to the achievement of goals, be team oriented and has a hands-on approach.
This position will also provide detailed and updated Food Safety and Quality metrics and reporting and is or may be the facility SQF Practitioner.
Essential Duties
Responsible for the Quality and Food Safety program of two manufacturing facilities.
- GFSI Practitioner- Manages and directs SQF Practitioners at Fall River and Warren R.I
- Serves as the back up SQF (Safe Quality Foods) Practitioner for the organization.
- Assures the authorization and validation of all food safety and quality programs.
- Backup for FR FSQA Manager(s)
- Assures compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and food safety standards.
- Assures product conformance with customer specifications.
- Blount Operations has responsibility for product quality; FSQA must audit this process to assure it is effective, both Blount produced items and inbound raw materials. Sr. Manager, FSQA will work with Corporate FSQA to create programs and audit processes accordingly.
- Provide positive motivation to all disciplines within the facility to implement processes and achieve goals with respect to best-in-class food safety & quality of products and services.
- Works with customers to resolve specific quality problems.
- Routinely works to improve FSQA Facility reporting:
- Facility scorecards: ensuring completion, and necessary actions based on data in reporting
- Internal Audit: working with Corporate FSQA on report development for internal audits and reporting on observation CAPA
- Confers with Engineering regarding quality, food safety, and sanitation aspects of new products and equipment; fundamental is responsible for verification and validation of the defined process.
- Maintains an exceptional facility level quality assurance and food safety program to assure successful third party audits.
- Manages consumer complaint database to assure accurate reporting and continuous improvement. Is a Corporate Continuous Improvement team member
- Assures the Organic Certification, Gluten Free and other “claims” are executed as defined and clear procedures exist for the facilities. Interfaces with Program owner.
- Other duties with similar skill, work conditions, and responsibilities as assigned.
- Key technical support for the Fall River and Warren facility teams.
Responsibilities for Food Safety
- Responsible for completing required paperwork accurately and honestly, where applicable.
- Must adhere to posted GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) when working within the production facility.
- Responsible for reporting suspicious packages, activities and individuals, where applicable.
- If monitoring CCPs (Critical Control Points), must be trained in HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) and adhere to approved HACCP plan(s).
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Manages three subordinate managers who supervise a total of department of 30-40 employees in the Quality Assurance - Fall River Plant and Quality Assurance - Warren Plant. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Education and/or Experience
- Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ready to Eat/Refrigerated or Shelf Stable food or beverage experience important.
- Experience working & managing quality in a USDA facility or corporate environment strongly preferred
